  • Spend the weekend with me and learn how to thicken natural dyes and mordants to create pattern and texture on the surface of fabric. We will briefly learn how to apply the dyes to the fabric using surface design techniques such as painting, stamps, thermofax and monoprinting to create pattern, color and texture. We will use various fabrics to create samples and explore how the different types of fabrics affect the color and design. We will make samples and participants will walk away with enough different samples to create a reference binder of the various techniques and fabrics.

This class is about having fun while learning something new and experimenting with the process. It is a good class for sewists, quilters or anyone curious to know how to create their own unique fabric

This course is a deep dive introduction to surface design using natural dyes. Spanning 5 days, the classes cover processes and methods to create pattern and design on the surface of fabric. The classes teach how to use thickened mordants and thickened dye, how to make and use resists and introduce methods such as stamping, deconstructed silkscreening and monoprinting to apply the dyes to the fabric. Registrants will develop their own motifs and use it to create pattern and texture on different types of fabric provided by the instructor. Students walk away with practice samples to start developing their own sample book. This class is great for quilters and sewists who want to use their own signature fabric. It's also great for those who want to learn something new.

All experience levels welcome.
