Art as Expression - An Art + Sound Workshop at the MAC

This is a 2 hour, guided  stress-release, art-creation and music listening workshop delving into neuro-expressive art & the sonic art practice. for ages 18+

Unwind with Neuro-Epressive Art & the Sonic Art Practice

When we listen to music, our body aligns with the pace, energy and movement of the music we listen to. Workshops and retreats in Neuro-Expressive Art and the Sonic Art Practice utilize the rhythm and flow of music as a subtle driver of direct, automatic expression during the art-making process. Participants are guided to work on individual and collaborative works of art. The works of art that are created become a healing map of our sensory experiences. The focus is on expression, movement and process rather than product, aesthetics or composition. Although the results are often profound and stunning. Please see the supply list below so you know what supplies to bring for class.

Please bring the following supplies:

PLEASE READ: Feel free to bring what you have and go budget friendly. You can visit the local resale art supply store Who Gives a Scrap to see what you can purchase second hand. The only thing I ask that you please do not scrimp on is the watercolor paper. Choosing a great paper will support your process. Cheap watercolor paper may pill and buckle.

Paintbrushes - One 2-3" wide, One Medium round, One 1-2" Flat Brush

Or this brush set: https://www.amazon.com/Brushes-Multifunctional-Professional-Watercolor-Painting/dp/B095M9LKPN/ref=sr_1_23?crid=39ELZO4MGKPWA&keywords=watercolor+paint+brush+set&qid=1706198941&sprefix=watercolor+paint+brsh+se%2Caps%2C95&sr=8-23

Watercolor Palatte - / Set -Any water color set you have at home is great. Or this budget friendly one: https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Watercolor-Washable-Non-toxic-Beginners/dp/B08BFV5N3M?th=1

Acrylic Paint - One Tube of copper, gold or silver acrylic paint. We will use this to make washes with. The metalic is for adding in accents. You can use high quality or the cheaper craft quality here.

Alcohol Ink - Inexpensive is fine. Just be sure it is actually Alcohol ink!! If it is not, it will not react with the watercolor. If you do want to go with a budget buy, I recommend this: https://www.amazon.com/Alcohol-Ink-Set-Painting-Concentrated/dp/B08CC5CHP1?th=1

Acrylic Ink - Choose 3 colors you like. Dr Martins is the best quality and you can order these individually. My budget friendly fave that I use is this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C2CDHMR7?th=1

Watercolor Paper - A good quality watercolor paper is important. This is the only supply that you do not want to scrimp on. Here is a link to a good quality paper: https://www.amazon.com/Arches-Watercolor-Paper-pound-1795093/dp/B01EQHJH88
