Who is Class For?

This certification session is for members and non-member who have experience using standard sewing machine and are interested in learning how to operate a more heavy-duty machine for sewing multiple fabric layers, thick and tougher materials such as leather, denim, canvas or upholstery fabrics.

Learning Objective

  • To be able to wind bobbin, correctly insert bobbin and case
  • Thread machine correctly with proper tensions
  • Adjust for appropriate thread, stitch length, needles, and other attachments
  • Back stitch to secure stitching and tie-off
  • How to oil machine, engage and stop machine
  • Importance of hand-placement. 

You will practice using machine by constructing a phone-charging bag.

Learning Outcome

Once certified, a member will be able to apply skills from certification session to work independently in the Textile Lab using this machine depending on membership type.

Access to the Machine

Certified members have access 10-6 Tue- Thur and 10-5 Fri and Sat. Certified members who have a red entry card will have access 22 hrs a day, 7 days a week. Use of machine is on first come basis. Check in with Maria or Sid who will enter your reservation on the MAC calendar
